The Reset


What do you think of when you hear the word, "RESET?"


Here are a few of my ideas:

(1) Erase all the junk & make new again

(2) Bring everything back to core foundations

(3) Clean Slate - ready to fill with new opportunities


Connect it to your body and mind. These definitions don't change. Have you ever felt the need to RESET your body and/or mind? What if I told you we should RESET EVERYDAY?!?


Throughout our lives, we pick up all sorts of nasty habits. "Text Neck" and "Anterior Hip Tilt" (to compensate the text neck) are two of the biggest posture inhibitors we see today. There are lots of things we do in our daily life that bring imbalances to our posture and when we repeat them often enough, they become second nature. So, we're basically LIVING with overactive & stressed hip flexors, neck and shoulders, back, and pelvic floor muscles. This causes strain, fatigue, pain, limited range of motion, and tightness, just to name a few. OUR BODIES DESPERATELY NEED A RESET BUTTON!!!


WHAT IS THE RESET? - in the LYT Yoga Method, The Reset includes series of exercises and postures that neutralize the spine and pelvis, fire the core muscles, and resets the alignment of the spine.

  • Bridge Pose - Neutralizes Pelvis, Core Firing

  • Stabilizer Abs - Core Firing

  • Supine Twist - Spinal Alignment & Pelvis Rest

  • Second set of Stabilizer Abs - Core Firing and intro to movement on different planes

  • Quadruped - Pelvis Stability, Core Firing, Spinal Alignement

  • Dolphin - Introduction to more load, ALL encompassing stabilizing and firing.

WHEN TO DO THE RESET? - Before you start your yoga practice, as a pre-workout, or to start your day off after you wake up.


WHY THE RESET? - Read below!


THE RESET IN YOUR WORKOUT:

Your posture conveys your energy! Posture is very important when you're exercising and working out. The reset will align your 3s: Skull, Scapula, and Sacrum by neutralizing the pelvis and spine. With this alignment, your engagement will feel better, you'll have more control, and receive positive reinforcement from your body. The RESET is a long term action plan, you are setting yourself up for longevity and sustainability! The more you use the reset, the more you re-train your brain and body to this neutral position. And when you can identify your neutral position, you can feel the freedom of fluidity.


Overstressed muscles are stressed and active all the time. It creates all sorts of imbalances. And although they are active, you aren't gaining any strength because of it.

THE RESET IN YOGA

Okay, so you are more aware of the importance of the reset, yay! What does this have to do with yoga? To be blunt, EVERYTHING! Yoga is about making a connection, right? The yoga asanas (poses) are about connecting energy and matter into a shape. And what are humans but ENERGY & MATTER?! Yoga and posture is equally connected. Our posture will influence the entire practice. There are 5 Chakras located within our core body (pelvis to shoulder girdle), with the Third Eye and Crown Chakras are an extension of the core body. If they are aligned our practice feels amazing. The reset will align these chakras so you can begin your practice with all the energies organized. We need a RESET!!! A place to wipe our physical, mental, & emotional slates and come into a clean, organized, and neutral place.


THE LYT YOGA METHOD RESET

It's my wish to create yoga practices & workout routines you feel safe, energized, and challenged in. I believe it all starts with The Reset. So, here's my challenge to you: try it out.
